WEED!!!!!!!!!!

Had a spell of fishing today at Meggies Burn.

After spending a good few hours getting the carp feeding I was gutted to hook into a large (possibly double) common only to have it go straight into the weed. After pulling out a MASSIVE clump of weed I lost the fish. My only take of the day could've produced a good fish.

I have now decided that for the health of the carp in there I will not be fishing for them again until the weed starts dying back. The pond has been raked but only small areas for the pole anglers. Does the club have any plans for removing some weed so us carp lads can actually have a chance of getting a fish out of the water? I am willing to give up some time to rake the water if thats any help???

In my opinion (and only my opinion) the water should not be fished for carp while there is no chance of landing them with the amount of thick weed thats in there its just simply not possible to get one out as they just dive straight into it.

hi markie we are trying to get a work party together soon to combat the weed, if anybody knows of anybody with an old metal bed frame ,could you please let us know so we can make a big rake to solve this problem thanks dave.

I'd be carefull what the club use as a rake its a stone bottom and something big stuck in the middle would create one heck of a snag.

If the work party is at a weekend I will be there as long as its not on a date when i'm away with my angling website I think the 29th June is the only day I cant come this month

The wellfare of the carp is my main concern mate i'd hate to be responsible for the death of a large carp simply due to me catching it and drowning it by it getting caught up in weed.

Anyway apart from this the pond is doing very well and the crucians and tench are fishing like mad

I'm definately up for a weeding party one evening every now and then should be enough to solve the problem
